About this property

Welcome to The Mosser Hotel

Located in the heart of San Francisco's vibrant SoMa district, The Mosser Hotel offers cozy accommodations within an intimate building dating back to 1913. Rooms vary between those with en suite bathrooms and others with shared facilities, reflecting the hotel's vintage character and affordability. Guests appreciate the hotel’s free Wi-Fi and appreciate the smoke-free environment, though the property does not provide air conditioning, parking, or breakfast services.

Facilities are basic, focusing on essential needs rather than luxury. The on-site restaurant provides dining options, but travelers should be aware that amenities such as fitness centers, pools, or airport shuttles are not available. Accessibility features are offered, making the property more accommodating for guests with mobility needs. Some visitors have noted that room sizes can be small and noise levels typical of a downtown location, so light sleepers are advised to plan accordingly.

Its central position grants easy access to several of San Francisco’s key attractions, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Alcatraz Island, and Union Square, making it suitable for visitors looking to explore the city’s culture and entertainment. Proximity to public transit is a highlight, with Powell BART and Muni stations just steps away, facilitating convenient travel around the city. Nearby parking options exist but are limited and have received mixed reviews.

Reviews from past guests reflect a mostly positive experience, praising the friendly staff, cleanliness, and value for money. Some caution is advised regarding room features, such as shared bathrooms or occasional noise, but overall the hotel is recognized as a practical choice for budget-conscious travelers who prioritize location over upscale amenities. Those seeking a boutique feel with historic charm may find The Mosser Hotel a fitting option when visiting San Francisco.

It was good. Really good location nice room (a bit small). It was weird having the sink in the bathroom but it's alright. The aisle smelled a bit old but nothing too bad. The staff was nice. At night you can hear weird people screaming. The room is WAY too hot sometimes. For the price I paid (~300$ for 4 nights) it was amazing.

I had a really good stay here! The room was clean, pleasant, and surprisingly affordable for the location. Just steps away from Powell BART/Muni! Sharing bathrooms and showers felt a little weird at first, but they were so numerous and clean that it was never a problem. Totally recommend, and will probably stay there next time I'm in town. The parking sitch is a bit difficult.

I stayed at the Mosser for about 4 days and all in all was a very pleasant experience. The shared shower room was very cleaned and completely comfortable the shared bathroom was so small it was hard to get inside of. Eventually we saw a bug in the singles room (not the kind from an infestation) but thankfully the staff was kind and upgraded us for free. The staff was kind, thoughtful, and helpful. Despite the little problems it was a very good experience and I would definitely stay there again.

My husband & I visited San Fran for the 1st time back in May. We booked the Mosser because of its close location to shopping & transportation, and because my husband likes 'boutique hotels'. The staff was very helpful & friendly. Our room was a bit small, mainly due to how old the building is, but very clean & cozy, sufficient for our 5-day stay. The Harlequin Restaurant is right next door, with Trader Joe's only a couple buildings away. Very convenient. This hotel does serve complimentary coffee in the mornings; however, what I think would make one's stay a lot better is to add a continental breakfast, as well (muffins, fruit, etc). All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Mosser & yes, we would go back.

Heads up to the hotel that I'm posting under a different last name than when I stayed. Regardless, I think some of these reviews are quite unfair. Remember at the bottom of it all: You get what you pay for. This hotel is inexpensive and serves at a good location. The rooms are passable and things are definitely within the standard range for the price. For people complaining about noise and quality of rooms: You are paying for a downtown hotel in one of the most expensive cities in the US for (at least what I paid) about 100 bucks. For the price it is definitely a good option, especially if you won't be there and just sorta need a "home base". Staff was professional and courteous but not really anything more than that. Street noise is to be expected because its a busy area, and even expensive hotels suffer from similar problems. So I say, give it a shot. Worst case you check out early and find somewhere else.

Make sure you know what you’re booking. I reserved a room through a third-party site that didn’t clearly say the bathroom was shared (Super.com). The hotel has limited control on some listings. They were able to move me to a private bathroom room for $50 more per night. Service, location, and value are all good, and the rooms are very clean. If the price seems low, call to confirm whether the bathroom is private or shared. The shared bathroom looked very clean — no smell like some other people suggested. I was happy with the stay- great hotel for the price, average noise level for being in a city downtown. If you’re picky- pay a bit more and stay at a nicer hotel. This place is great value and you get old SF charm.

Exactly what I expected: affordable, does the job, vintage and full of personality. The room and bathroom were very clean. The window was jammed and the receptionist Erick was amazing, he went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. Would recommend for anyone on a budget.
